Every measured trail is assigned star ratings. The star ratings are hierarchical which means that a subordinate star rating exists only if all of the conditions in the superordinate star rating do not exist.
Five Stars: The trail was measured using a device that is accurate to within an acceptable range (e.g., a handheld GPS receiver, with or without an external attenna) and the dataset is multitudinous.
Four Stars: The trail was measured using a device that is accurate to within an acceptable range and the dataset is not multitudinous.
Three Stars: The trail was measured using a device that is not accurate to within an acceptable range (e.g., a mobile/cell phone in an area where mobile/cell phone towers may not always be available) and the dataset is multitudinous.
Two Stars: The trail was measured using a device that is not accurate to within an acceptable range and the dataset is not multitudinous.
One Star: The trail was measured using a device that is unknown.
No Stars: Not yet rated.
