Acadia National Park located on Mount Desert Island, Maine is in close proximity to Bar Harbor. The park, comprised of a conglomeration of islands has a diversity of ecosystems due to their geographic range. Here you will find mountains, beaches, woodlands, lakes, waterfalls and cliffs; and a historic carriage road system dotted with stone-faced bridges. Although surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, you will find freshwater and intertidal areas in the park, with a wide variety of plant and animal life. The park is a source of tranquility and magnificence with self-guided and Ranger-Led hiking trails, and other summer programs. Campgrounds, biking trails, miles of shoreline and birding are offered in addition to nature walks with magnificent vistas. The rarely seen moose and bears live here with dozens of species of mammals, including fox, coyote and bobcat; and an abundance of marine life can be found in the surrounding waters.
