Explore the cultural history of the Peninsula, enjoy the spectacular view from the park of the harbor and cityscape; the panorama from the Monument is reputed to have one of the best harbor views in the world. The unique ecosystem created by the Mediterranean climate, tide pools, coastal sage scrub and southern maritime chaparral habitats, offers an amazing diversity of nature including myriads of birds, terrestrial invertebrates, reptiles, amphibians, tide pool animals, mammals and wonderful winter whale sightings. Ranger-guided walks and programs, hiking and biking are popular, as is bird-watching; or visit the Point Loma Lighthouse, the 16th century navigation and armaments, or the exhibits and films at the Visitor's Center.
