Chamizal National Memorial

Chamizal National Memorial located in El Paso, Texas, and founded in 1974 to commemorate the peaceful settlement of a 100 year old border dispute along the Rio Grande River, at a point where the river changed course between El Paso and Chihuahuaxas in the United States and Ciudad Juarez. After a treaty was signed the memorial park was built with three art galleries, a theater, and an amphitheatre, and a museum in the Visitor's Center detailing the history of the border. The Cordova Island Trail at the park offers views of the Franklin and Juarez Mountains, El Paso and the international bridge between the two countries. A similar park, El Chamizal was established on the Mexican side of the Rio Grande. Both of these parks stand as a tribute to the goodwill, diplomacy and mutual cooperation between the two nations.
