Fort Stanwix National Monument

Fort Stanwix National Monument is located in upstate New York, within the city of Rome, which is in close proximity to the Erie Canal. This 18th century fort has undergone restoration and rebuilding to preserve its important historical significance during a crucial period of American history. The Willett Center, across from the fort, explores the Revolutionary War and the people that lived there. The history of the French and Indian War, the treaty between the British and the Native Americans that used the ancient trail that connects the Mohawk River and Wood Creek and the Six Nations Confederacy, natives of the Mohawk Valley, can all be traced through self-guided, or guided tours, which include exhibits and some motion activated audio and visual displays.
