Great Basin National Park, Nevada established in 1986 is comprised of majestic mountains, alpine lakes, mountain streams, a small glacier, flat valleys or basins, and ancient pine trees growing on glacial moraines. The beauty of the Lehman Caves or Lexington Arch, the solitude of a desert, forest and alpine areas, each of which supports a diversity of plant and animal species offer unique experiences. Even the night sky is sublime, far from the light pollution of modern civilization. Mountain ranges vary from 5,000 — 13,000 feet; higher altitudes present hazards to the unprepared. The 10,000 year history of human settlement in the area awaits discovery at the Visitor's Center. Whether hiking or camping in the summer, or skiing and snow shoeing in winter, the Great Basin is exquisite.
