Lassen Volcanic National Park

Lassen Volcanic National Park established in 1907 is located in California in close proximity to Redding; the dominant feature is Lassen Peak, the largest plug dome volcano in the world. The park contains all four types of volcanoes found on earth; a lava plateau, jagged craters, mud pots, sulfur vents, glaciated canyons, lakes, hot springs and streams. Surprisingly there is a rich diversity of plant and animal life with more than 700 flowering plant species, conifer and fir trees, with an environment conducive to growth and ample moisture from the Cascades. There is a wilderness preserve for adventurous campers, as well as over 150 hiking trails, birdwatching, backpacking, boating, kayaking, horseback riding, and auto-touring with spectacular views from the Main Park Road, as well as winter sports.
