Little Bighorn Battlefield Monument is a commemorative site which preserves the pivotal history of a 19th century clash between the United States and Native American Indians. Known iconically as "Custer's Last Stand" the more than 12,000 acres of battlefield has drawn numerous visitors each year. Only 765 acres were set aside as a Monument, however there are trails and markers throughout the adjacent acreage on the rest of the actual battlefield, telling the story of this momentous conflict which took place in 1876. Today the Monument memorializes all who took part in this clash of cultures, and strives to preserve the history which created the divergence leading to the battle, as well as its outcome.
