Pinnacles National Park

Pinnacles National Park, comprised of jagged rock formations, magnificent spires, huge monoliths and sheer walled canyons, was established in 1908; it is located east of central California's Salinas Valley. A campground in both the East and West Divisions of the Pinnacles is divided by rock formations, but can be accessed by foot trails; however there is no driving road connecting the two campgrounds, which are accessed by different entrances. Hiking and cave exploration are popular, while spectacular formations attract experienced rock climbers. The two caves are home to different species of bats, while a wide variety of animals live in the mountains. During spring the profusion of beautiful, colorful wildflowers draw many people, as birdwatchers try to catch sight of the endangered condors and peregrine falcons.
