Prince William Forest Park located in Northern Virginia is a large protected area in close proximity to Washington, D.C.; preserving the natural appearance that may have existed in the past, although human habitation has altered the ecosystems somewhat over the centuries. This magnificent setting contains ruins and historical landmarks that once existed and now blend into the natural beauty that has overtaken the park. Recreational activities abound from camping, cycling, visiting remnants of once important mine sites, viewing the numerous cabins and lodging in the rustic cabin atmosphere which were once occupied for training spies and radio operators during World War II. Most trails lead to historical areas, extinct towns and views of the Quantico Creek with its small waterfalls.
