Redwood National Park founded in 1968, became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1980; preservation of this ecosystem, decimated by 150 years of logging has necessitated part of the California Coast Range being declared a Biosphere Reserve. After a 20 million year history, loggers clear-cut over two million acres of old-growth redwood forests whose seedlings took root over 2,000 years ago. There are no superlatives majestic enough to describe the beauty of a redwood forest, the tallest and one of the most massive tree species on Earth. The indigenous flora, fauna, rivers and streams; in close proximity to the Pacific Coast's rugged cliff strewn panorama, will enfold you in their mystic and majestic ancient embrace.
