Wupatki National Monument located near Flagstaff, Arizona was established in 1924 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1966; and resonates with the Native American culture that once flourished in the multistory pueblos in this arid desert. Ancient Pueblo People apparently used the Wupatki as a meeting place; the histories of these cultures can be explored at the Visitor Center; there are also ranger-led interpretive programs and hikes which detail some of the archeological sites, rock art, and discussions on the geology, plant and animal life during a 2-3 mile hike; the half-mile Wupatki Pueblo Trail is available for those who wish to go on a self-guided tour. There is also a geological blowhole, an underground cavity with winds that enter and emerge from small blowholes and dry wells.
