The Hiouchi Trail is a popular trail that follows alongside the Smith River as it meanders through the Giant Redwoods. There are several trailheads, the main trailhead is located off Highway 199, near the eastern end of the Hatton Trail. At this location the trail begins with a short grade, but levels off for the rest of the hike. During the summer months there is a seasonal bridge that crosses the Smith River for easier access from the Jedediah Smith campground to the southern end of the Hiouchi Trail which also leads to the stunning Stout Grove.
