The Sandal Trail is a self guided trail located along the mesa behind the visitor centre. There are several picnic benches for visitors to enjoy, the trail is slightly uneven in areas but overall an easy walk. The Betatakin Overlook offers views of the Anasazi Betatakin Ruins that were built into a sandstone alcove during 1250 AD and 1300 AD. The Sandal Trail is one of three short trails located behind the visitor centre and is open year round.
